Marlene is a successful businesswoman with an unsuccessful personal life. She has left her poor life behind to enjoy success. Top Girls opens in a restaurant where Marlene is hosting a dinner party for five friends – the five guests are all women that are either long-dead or are fictional characters from literature or paintings. In much the same way Tony Kushner incorporates dreamlike sequences to explore issues of AIDS in Angels in America, Top Girls explores issues of feminism in the shadow of Margaret Thatcher’s policies in Great Britain.

The Receptionist

By Adam Bock

Apr 1-3

At the start of a typical day in the Northeast Office, Beverly deals effortlessly with ringing phones and her colleague’s romantic troubles. But the appearance of a charming rep from the Central Office disrupts the friendly routine. And as the true nature of the company’s business becomes apparent, The Receptionist raises disquieting, provocative questions about the consequences of complicity with evil.

A Year with Frog and Toad

Book and Lyrics by Willie Reale

Music by Robert Reale

Based on the books by Arnold Lobel

Mar 25-27

Arnold Lobel’s well-loved characters hop from the page to the stage in Robert and Willie Reale’s musical A Year With Frog And Toad. Conceived by Mr. Lobel’s daughter, Adrianne Lobel, A Year With Frog And Toad remains true to the spirit of the original stories as it follows two great friends, the cheerful and popular Frog and the rather grumpy Toad through four fun-filled seasons. Waking from hibernation in the spring, they proceed to plant gardens, swim, rake leaves and go sledding, learning life lessons along the way, including a most important one about friendship and rejoicing in the attributes that make each of us different and special.

The Wonderful World of Dissocia

By Anthony Neilson

Mar 18-20

Lisa is about to embark on a mission. A mission that will take her into another world. A perilous, bizarre but alluring world: The Wonderful World of Dissocia. It’s all because of an hour. A missing hour. Lost on the plane between New York and London. Ever since that trip Lisa’s life has been diabolical. Now she’s being given the opportunity to recover the hour and restore equilibrium to her life. All she has to do is make her way through Dissocia…On the way she’ll meet a bumbling pair of (in)security guards, a (scape)goat with a penchant for committing horrible crimes and a trashy hot dog vendor named Britney. But the trouble these guys cause is nothing compared with Lisa’s most terrifying adversary: the Black Dog King.

Exhilaration and frenetic adventuring aside, there is something very dark and very real lurking beneath this world. All is not as it seems.
